Being Yourself is Powerful
Hi! I’m Iris Copperman, a 14-year-old singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist from Nashville, TN. I feel so lucky to have found songwriting as an outlet for my feelings…and hope that my music helps you feel seen and know that you are never alone.
My goal is to empower kids to treat others with kindness and respect, and to love and appreciate each other for who they are. Being yourself is powerful!

Dealing with Bullying
If you are being bullied, you are not alone: Support is available. And if you see someone else being bullied, either in person or online, there are ways to safely stand up against bullying.
Friendship
Friends aren’t just fun to hang out with — they’re important for our health. They help our confidence and self-worth, stick by us during hard times, boost our feeling of belonging, and encourage us to make changes when we struggle.
Connection
As humans, we seek connection. And being connected to other people is a proven way to take care of your mental health. Whether it’s texting with friends, getting involved in a new activity or sport, or talking to a professional, building your support circle is one of the best things you can do for you.
Self-Care
Just like you do things to stay physically healthy, there are things you can do every day or on a regular basis to take care of your mind. These practices can help you bounce back from tough moments, and get in touch with — and do — things that help you feel good and emotionally healthy.
What Works for Me
Talking It Out
Sharing what’s on my mind really helps. I can go to my parents, friends, a trusted adult, and if I need more help, I’ll talk with my therapist. They help me understand what I’m feeling and remind me that I don’t have to figure it out all alone.
Self-Care
Little things help me reset. I might go outside, drink a warm cup of tea, or snuggle with my dog. Sometimes I jump on the trampoline, meditate, or try on outfits. They’re simple, but they make me feel like myself again.
Writing
My journal is where everything goes. My stories, song lyrics, random thoughts, worries, and dreams. Writing helps me let it out. My songs are a way of turning feelings into something others can connect with, which makes me feel less alone too.
If you are experiencing a mental health crisis, text, call, or chat 988, the National Suicide and Crisis Lifeline, for a free confidential conversation with a trained counselor 24/7. You can also reach out to the Crisis Text Line by texting HOME to 741-741.
For a referral for mental health treatment, call 1-800-662-HELP (4357) to reach SAMHSA’s National Helpline.
Let’s Be Friends
My music was written as a reminder to always be kind. I hope it brings you comfort.
